When I’m asked to explain, what it means to live in North Korea, or what North Korea is alike, I always have a problem. You can’t explain it in a few words. In a certain way it’s a “bizarre”, strange country. Many things you only realize, when you are living there for a longer period.

When you arrive in Pyongyang, you will see wide roads, sometimes even    8 – 10 lanes with little traffic, monumental buildings, multistory living quarters along the roads, many parks. Basically everything is looking nice. But it’s a façade. And it’s very difficult, mostly even impossible to look behind this facade.

In this book there are a selection of my pictures, which I made during the 3 years, I lived in this country.  Pictures of daily life, beautiful scenery and many pictures of people.

But what it means to live in this country as a Korean, you can’t put in pictures.
